Lumivero’s web shop lists @RISK Professional at €2,900 per year and @RISK Industrial at €3,500 per year on annual subscriptions (shop.lumivero.com, retrieved August 2026; prices are shown in your local currency and may vary). ModelRisk, the closest full-featured alternative, costs at most €1,550 per user per year — around half the @RISK Professional price, and well under half of Industrial.
If you are budgeting for spreadsheet risk analysis software — or renewing an existing @RISK licence — this page gives you the facts in one place: what @RISK costs according to Lumivero’s own web shop, how the pricing model works, and how the serious alternatives compare.
In Lumivero’s web shop. After Palisade was acquired and folded into Lumivero, @RISK’s public price lists disappeared for a period and quotes came only through sales conversations. As of August 2026, shop.lumivero.com lists @RISK Professional and Industrial with prices and an add-to-cart checkout; the shop shows annual subscription prices in your local currency.
Multi-year terms, multi-seat deals and renewals are still negotiated through sales, and quoted prices can move year to year — which makes multi-seat budgets, such as a consultancy licensing a whole modelling team, harder to plan than a fixed published ceiling. Check the shop for the current figure before budgeting.
Prices below are from Lumivero’s own web shop (shop.lumivero.com, retrieved August 2026). The shop lists annual subscriptions in the visitor’s local currency — euro prices are shown here; your negotiated quote for multi-year or multi-seat terms may differ.
@RISK is sold on per-seat subscriptions, so a five-analyst team on Professional annual terms would be budgeting roughly €14,500 per year at the listed price, before any negotiated discount.
ModelRisk costs at most €1,550 per user per year, published openly on our pricing page, with volume and multi-year discounts from that ceiling. There is one edition with every feature included — 1,400+ functions, 135 distributions, 28 time series models, 9 copula models — and a fully functional 15-day free trial.
Two structural differences matter when comparing the numbers. First, ModelRisk has no Professional/Industrial split: features such as time series, copulas and distribution fitting that sit in @RISK’s higher tier are in every ModelRisk licence. Second, the price is public, so you can put it in a budget without a sales call. At the August 2026 web-shop prices, ModelRisk’s €1,550 ceiling is 47% below @RISK Professional (€2,900) and 56% below @RISK Industrial (€3,500) — before ModelRisk’s volume and multi-year discounts widen the gap further.
The main @RISK alternatives for Monte Carlo simulation in Excel are ModelRisk (closest in depth, published pricing), Oracle Crystal Ball (a legacy add-in priced through Oracle sales), lower-cost tools such as RiskAMP and Argo, free academic add-ins, and building simulations yourself in Python or R. Which fits depends on model complexity and audience.
ModelRisk (Vose Software). The most direct replacement for professional @RISK use. It covers the full quantitative toolset — simulation, distribution fitting, copulas for correlation, time series, aggregate (frequency-severity) modelling — and includes a built-in converter that opens existing @RISK models and rewrites them as ModelRisk functions. Models remain 100% Excel-compliant spreadsheets, so colleagues without a licence can still open and audit them. In use since 2008 at organisations including NASA, Boeing, Merck and Deloitte.
Oracle Crystal Ball. The other long-established Excel add-in. It remains functional for classic forecasting work, but development has been slow for years and its method set is narrower than either @RISK or ModelRisk. Pricing is handled through Oracle’s sales channel. ModelRisk includes a converter for Crystal Ball models as well.
RiskAMP, Argo and other low-cost add-ins. Sensible for occasional, simple simulations — a single NPV model, a classroom exercise. Teams doing professional risk work usually outgrow them on distribution choice, correlation handling and fitting tools.
Python or R. Free, powerful and right for some teams. The trade-offs are auditability and handover: a board, regulator or client who can read a spreadsheet cannot necessarily read code, and someone must maintain that code. Analysts also iterate faster in the spreadsheet where the model already lives. If your stakeholders live in Excel, an add-in keeps the whole audience in the loop.

ModelRisk includes a free converter that translates @RISK models — individually or a whole folder at once — into ModelRisk functions, so existing work carries over without rebuilding. The underlying concepts are identical, and the switching guide maps each common @RISK function and menu item to its ModelRisk equivalent.
Contracts matter too: since @RISK is sold as an annual subscription, the practical moment to evaluate an alternative is the months before renewal. Running the free 15-day ModelRisk trial against your own models is the quickest way to test both compatibility and simulation speed on realistic workloads.
No. @RISK is commercial software with a time-limited trial available through Lumivero. If you need a free option for coursework or one-off simple models, academic add-ins or open-source tools cover the basics; professional risk work generally justifies a commercial toolset.
Palisade was acquired and became part of Lumivero, which moved @RISK from perpetual licences to subscription licensing. Public price lists disappeared for a period after the acquisition; as of August 2026 Lumivero’s web shop again lists prices — €2,900/year for Professional and €3,500/year for Industrial — while multi-year and multi-seat terms remain quote-based.
ModelRisk’s published maximum is €1,550 per user per year, with volume and duration discounts below that. Against the €2,900–€3,500 per year that Lumivero’s web shop lists for @RISK (retrieved August 2026), a five-seat team pays roughly half as much on ModelRisk — and the ModelRisk licence includes the features @RISK reserves for its higher Industrial tier.
An @RISK model opened in plain Excel shows the last calculated values but the simulation functions need the add-in. ModelRisk’s converter reads the @RISK workbook and rewrites the risk functions as ModelRisk equivalents, after which the model runs entirely in ModelRisk.
ModelRisk has no editions to choose between. Every licence includes the full toolset — 1,400+ functions, 135 distributions, 28 time series models, 9 copula models, distribution fitting, and aggregate (frequency-severity) modelling — including the categories of functionality @RISK reserves for its higher-priced Industrial tier.
