Risk analysis trainingFrom first steps to masterclasses

Software alone doesn’t make a risk analyst. Our courses teach the method along with the tools, online or at your offices, for analysts, project teams and the managers who use their results.

Why train

Software is the start, not the skill

Buying a copy of Word won’t make you a poet, and buying risk analysis software doesn’t make anyone a risk analyst. It is an essential start, which is why our courses teach risk analysis as well as the software.

The questions are about method

We get few questions about where to click, and many about risk analysis itself, such as which distribution to use.

Beginner mistakes change results

When we audit risk models we often find beginner mistakes with a large effect on the results, even in models built by a company’s designated risk analysts.

A trainer is quicker

Our help, videos and example models are enough to learn the software with time and effort. A trainer gets you there faster and answers questions as they come up.

Courses

Four kinds of training

Each course is planned with you: who it is for, the topics, your industry and how it is delivered.

Senior management

Managers new to risk analysis who want to see how it can help them.

What risk analysis is, setting a risk appetite, organising risk governance, using the results in decisions, what to settle before you ask for a risk analysis, describing a risk management strategy, and judging how robust the results are.

Software familiarisation

People who are going to use our software.

Built around one or two example problems that bring in the features one at a time, so people see what each feature is for and use the software themselves.

Formats

Ways to take a course

Pick by group size, depth and budget. Each format has trade-offs, and we’ll tell you which one suits your goal.

1 to 3 days

Individual online

One trainee and one trainer on a video call, sharing screens and files both ways. No travel, and the course can be split up to fit your calendar and time zone.

Half a day to 1 day

Group online

A live session for a group in Microsoft Teams. The lightest on cost and time, but with little one-to-one contact and few exercises, so it suits an introduction to the software or a single topic.

2 to 4 days

Face-to-face group

At your offices or a venue near you. The most productive format: plenty of questions, hands-on exercises and time to look at problems your company needs to solve. For five people or more it is often the most cost-effective.

FAQ

Questions about training

Do I need a ModelRisk licence to take a course?

A trial is enough. Bring your own computer with a trial or full version of ModelRisk installed, and ideally a second screen, so you can follow the exercises.

Can a course be built around our industry and our models?

Yes. Risk analysis modelling courses can focus on an industry, such as pharma, engineering or finance, and on the problems you model, such as discounted cash flow, sales forecasting or reliability.

Is training online or in person?

Both. Individual and group courses run online, and group courses can also run face to face at your offices or a venue near you.

How long does a course take?

A group online course takes half a day to a day. An individual online course takes one to three days and can be split up to fit your calendar. A face-to-face course usually takes two to four days.

Is there a certificate?

The self-paced online course leads to the Essentials of Business Risk Modelling badge from Vose Software, issued on Credly once you pass the exam.

Who teaches the courses?

Risk analysts from the Vose team and from The Ferryfield Group, our accredited training partner. Our partners in other regions also teach in their own language.

How much does training cost?

Webinars and masterclasses are free. Courses are priced for your group size, format and length, so ask our team for a quote.
