Ownership change

On 1 October a share-swap agreement was signed that resulted in the change of ownership of Vose Software BVBA and Vose Consulting US. Huybert Greonendaal now owns Vose Consulting, whilst Timour Koupeev and David Vose now own Vose Software. Course: A new type of Campylobacter in poultry risk assessment tool

Duration:

4 days (Jan 17 - Jan 20 , 2011).

Short description:

Vose recently developed a generic quantitative risk tool to evaluate efficiently and robustly the effect of interventions proposed by the user on the risk of campylobacteriosis from broiler meat. The tool provided with this course allows the user to input surveillance data from their own country together with data on the effectiveness of current and possible future interventions and then directly review the effects of new intervention strategies. No additional model development is necessary.

The tool uses many of the same principles of previous food safety risk assessment models, but takes a completely different mathematical approach to achieve its results. This provides the ability to investigate the effect of different combinations of interventions extremely quickly and allows for a great deal of flexibility in the data that are used.

A unique feature of the tool is that it is normalized to the data most commonly available throughout the farm-to-fork continuum. It also estimates the change in the human incidence rate of campylobacteriosis, rather than the actual incidence rates before and after variations in the interventions applied. The main advantage of this approach is that the outputs are far more robust, being less sensitive to any assumptions or statistical uncertainty in parameter estimates.

The tool is no 'black box'. It is based around Microsoft Excel and comes with complete documentation and VBA code that can be reviewed and edited as necessary. The user interface allows one to review all mathematics and to add, select and remove data sets at will and otherwise edit all quantitative data within the model.
