For any unimodal (single mode) distribution that is positively skewed (i.e. has a longer right tail than left tail), the mode, median and mean fall in that order.

If the distribution has a longer left tail than right, the order is reversed. Of course, if the distribution is symmetric and unimodal, like the Normal or Student distributions, the mode, median and mean will be equal.
